An introduction to visiting the Galápagos Islands

Birds Birds

Thursday 2 February

Theatre 2
Time: 11.00 am
Title: An introduction to visiting the Galápagos Islands
Speaker: Richard Furlong

Few places spark the imagination quite like the Galápagos Islands. Nowhere else can you experience such close encounters with remarkable animals including giant tortoises, waved albatross, marine iguanas, flightless cormorants, blue-footed and red-footed boobies, Galápagos penguins and sea lions galore. Even more exceptional is the behaviour of the wildlife, which lives without fear of humans. Of course there are many alternative ways for you to visit Galápagos and the aim of Richard’s presentation is to offer a practical introduction to exploring the islands. For instance, how far ahead do you need to book and when is the best time to go? How do you get there and how long should you stay? Are entry permits and visas needed? How do you choose your accommodation and which are the best itineraries? What are the weather conditions, the typical terrain, and what wildlife you are likely to see?

The presentation will concentrate on the practicalities of visiting Galápagos to help you plan the best possible holiday. Furlongs Travel proprietors Richard and Dawn Furlong have devised and personally escorted holidays for over 25 years. They offer escorted Galápagos tours each year aboard the privately chartered MS National Geographic Islander. Richard and Dawn will be pleased to answer questions at the presentation and at exhibition stand LA14.
