Dan Snow

Dan Snow

Dan Snow was born in London in 1978.  He went to St Paul’s School where he was head boy, and Balliol College, Oxford, where he won a First Class Honours degree in History. He rowed in the Oxford Eight in the Boat Races 1999, 2000, when he was Captain, and 2001.   

He was joint presenter with his father, Peter Snow, the veteran BBC broadcaster, of Battleplan: Alamein, the story of the British desert victory over the Germans in 1942.  They went on to present Battlefield Britain, the story of eight great battles on British soil in 2004 and 20th Century Battlefields transmitted on BBC 2 in spring 2007. 

He is co-author with his father of Battlefield Britain, BBC books 2004, and 20th Century Battlefields, published in the spring of 2007.  Dan and Peter also presented Whose Britain is it anyway?, the story of the ownership of Britain’s countryside, in 2006, What makes Britain rich? in early 2007 and What Britain Earns in 2008.

Dan and Peter have also jointly presented Radio Four programmes on the Black Prince and on the Peninsular War of 1808-14.  Dan has also presented a number of shows on BBC1 and 2 including Hadrian, The First Emperor of China, and Empire of the Seas.  He does regular reports on history for The One Show.

His latest book – published by Harper Press in 2009 is Death or Victory – The Battle of Quebec and the Birth of Empire. He is editing the diary of his great grandfather – a first world war general – for publication in 2011. Dan is a sailing Yachtmaster.
