Summer Along the Old Silk Road

WF wf

Friday 3 February

Theatre 2
Time: 1.00 pm
Title: Summer Along the Old Silk Road
Speaker: Jonny Bealby and Marc Leaderman

The wilds of Central Asia are amongst some of the most mysterious and fascinating regions anywhere on earth. These are lands that still stir the imagination, where glittering palaces of turquoise and gold emerge like shimmering mirages from the desert plains and the call to prayer transports us back to a time of merchant caravans and nomadic invaders.

Wild Frontiers' founder Jonny Bealby (who's book 'Silk Dreams, Troubled Road' describes his 3000 km journey through this region) and operations manager, Marc Leaderman, who has travelled throughout Central Asia over the past 12 years, will host the talk. Together they will offer an insight into not only all the wonders of the ancient Silk Road, but the unique cultures that have survived and flourished for 1000s of years in one of the most remote corners of the world – including the neighbouring, yet very diverse, countries of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
