Tiger Watching In India brings you the latest picture of what life has really been like for the tiger during the past year in India’s premier wildlife state, Madhya Pradesh. Your speaker, Pete Cooper, spends up to four months each year studying the same group of tigers in Bandhavgarh, giving him a unique perspective on the animals and their environment. In 2005 his work there was featured in a documentary that was screened as part of the Inside Out Series on BBC One.
The talk will tell how this year has seen one of the lesser visited parks finally concede that all of its tigers have been lost, and why the park directors of three of the states parks have been transferred from their posts as a result of an inquiry by the National Tiger Conservation Authority.
Supported by his work as a professional photographer and tour leader, your speaker will also look at how responsible tourism provides valuable protection by its presence, and narrate the disastrous consequences that occurred when tourism went too far. He will also highlight the problems and potential solutions to the problems facing tigers in the wild today. It may come as a surprise to many that both the problems and the solutions have changed little in the past decades.
The final question is whether this magnificent animal can succeed in its fight for survival. Your speaker firmly believes that with the right action the answer is yes!!
