Drumroots presents African Drumming Tanante with Iya Sako

Drumroots is the leading provider of West African drumming performance and workshops in Greater Manchester and across the North West. Specialising in the Djembe tradition, we are a co-operatively run business, embodying the spirit of togetherness fostered by the music. 

Tanante are a diverse group of individuals with a common passion for music, especially rhythm and the rediscovery of its social and spiritual importance in modern society. Performing Djembe and Dundun drums, melodious instrument and dance; Tanante's high energy performances are incredibly exciting and invite dance and audience participation. Through their energy, abilities and spectacular showmanship Tanante have proved to be incredibly popular with delighted audiences at concerts, weddings festivals.

Iya Sako is originally from North East Guinea, West Africa. He is Malinke, one of the many tribes of Guinea , and from a rich musical background. An outstanding Djembe drummer, Iya now lives in the UK. He has become one of the UK’s (and indeed the world’s) most respected djembe drummers; not least for his powerful performance and humble approach to performance and teaching alike. Tanante and Iya work together regularly.
