The winner of the BBC Food & Drink competition, Manju beat hundreds of other contestants to secure a guest cookery spot on the BBC2 prime time show, which was broadcast in July 1999, and she was asked to appear again in the same program.
Manju was raised in Middlesex, where she grew up surrounded by Indian culture, traditions and lifestyle. In her cooking, she draws on her past and combines it with the realities of urban Western life and has come up with her own unique “Brit-Indie” style of food. She loves experimenting and applies a fresh perspective on her heritage to come up with a fusion of British and Indian cuisine. Manju works as a voice-over artist but her real passion is food – she lives to eat. She avoids using countless spices for her recipes and has simplified the fine art of Indian cuisine.
With her fresh approach, Manju has created a huge variety of dishes, illustrating what she describes as “modern Indian cuisine for the new century”. It is everything a modern home cook could desire - quick to make, easy to follow and using a variety of readily available ingredients to achieve delicious results. Many of her dishes have their roots in recipes handed down from her mother who has adapted her traditional methods to suit a western lifestyle.
