North Korea Unveiled

Speaker: Carl Meadows and Andrea Godfrey

Company: Regent Holidays

Date: Thursday 31st January

Time: 11.00am

Location: Theatre 2

This opportunity to travel to the most fascinating communist country in the world is rare and Regent Holidays is its longest standing UK operator having enjoyed 23 years of operating thrilling tours there. North Korea, or officially the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), is one of the last bastions of the communist world. Leader Kim Jong II continues to ensure that mobile phones, global news and the internet are unavailable to the population, preserving absolute state control. The DPRK is regularly considered to be the most unique and bizarre travel destination on earth!

This talk takes you on a day by day itinerary of our unique Ultimate North Korea Tour. This 16 day group tour visits many unusual and rarely visited regions in the country, including a charter of an aircraft to visit Mt. Paekdu, Chilbo and the city of Chongjin, an essentially closed city within North Korea. The tour, unlike any other offered to the DPRK, offers a vast array of exceptional experiences that the “normal” visitor would not be permitted or able to encounter and was first operated with great success in 2007.

Andrea Godfrey, General Manager of Regent Holidays, has led many of Regents tours to the Baltic States, the Caucasus and Albania and has visited North Korea. Since joining Regent in 2004 Carl Meadows has managed the North Korea programme, and has made five lengthy visits to the country since. Between Carl and Andrea they have experienced near unrivalled access to travel, culture and life in the D.P.R. Korea.
