About the Speakers:
Jane Knight has been deputy travel editor of The Times for the past three years, and was previously editor of The Sunday Times Travel Magazine. She lived and worked in Venezuela for six years and France for two years.
Matthew Teller is a freelance travel journalist, specializing in independent travel. He has been a Rough Guide author for more than ten years and writes regularly for the national newspapers as well as magazines in the UK and worldwide.
Tahir Shah is the author of eleven books, most of which chronicle a range of outlandish journeys in Africa, Asia and the Americas. For him there is nothing so important as deciphering the hidden underbelly of the lands through which he travels. He shuns well -trodden tourist paths, and avoids celebrated landmarks, preferring instead to position himself in a dusty café and observe life go by.
Jonathan Lorie is the director of Travellers’ Tales, the UK’s leading training agency for travel writers and photographers. He founded the agency after seven years as editor of Traveller magazine, during which time he commissioned and edited most of today’s greatest explorers, travel writers and photographers. He has worked as a journalist and editor for 24 years, after graduating in English from Cambridge University. He has been a judge of the prestigious Thomas Cook Travel Book Award, and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
Clare Jones is a professional travel writer and photographer who has spent many years covering adventure activities across the globe for a variety of magazines and newspapers, including Traveller and Sunday Telegraph. She is also sponsored by Salomon in support of their ‘Women Will’ campaign www.salomonwomenwill.com/uk/). She is co-author of the bestselling BBC books Unforgettable Things To Do Before You Die, Unforgettable Journeys To Take Before You Die and Unforgettable Walks To Take Before You Die and the AA titles, Extreme Places and Key Guide to Spain.
