Sophie Ibbotson is an Orientalist, development consultant, and writer who works across South and Central Asia, two regions closely connected by their overlapping histories and cultures. She first visited Kashmir and Ladakh over 20 years ago, recently returning there last year. Her first trip to Uzbekistan was in 2010 and she has returned dozens of times since, exploring almost every corner of the country. Sophie is the author of the Bradt Guides to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Ladakh, Jammu & the Kashmir Valley. She is also the Chairman of the Royal Society for Asian Affairs, and since 2019 she has also been Uzbekistan’s Ambassador for Tourism.
