The Stanfords Travel Writers Festival returns to Destinations: The Holiday & Travel Show with compelling, inspirational and entertaining talks from explorers, adventurers, historians, novelists, TV personalities and many more of the very best travel authors. Join them to be transported to far-flung corners of the world.
Celebrity speakers at the 2019 event include:
Levison Wood - British explorer, writer and photographer Levison Wood will be talking to Paul Blezard about his life as an adventurer and his latest book Arabia. Following in the footsteps of great explorers such as Lawrence of Arabia and Wilfred Thesiger, Arabia is Levison Wood's account of his most complex expedition yet: circumnavigating the Arabian Peninsula. After the talk, Levison will be signing copies of his books, including Arabia at the ‘Signings at Stanfords’ stand.
Kate Humble - An English television presenter, author and narrator. Kate will talk to Julia Wheeler about the benefits of walking and her book Thinking on My Feet in which she recorded her walks (and runs) throughout a single year, but also charted her feelings and impressions throughout. After the talk, Kate will be signing copies of her book Thinking on My Feet at the ‘Signings at Stanfords’ stand.
Nicholas Crane - Author and broadcaster Nicholas Crane will be discussing why geography has never been more important to us and the knowledge that will aid us as we look to the future of the planet. After the talk, Nicholas will be signing copies of his books, including You Are Here at the ‘Signings at Stanfords’ stand.
Sir Chris Bonnington - Britain’s greatest mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington will be discussing his six decade career of climbing peaks, across all continents. After the talk, Chris will be signing copies of his book Ascent at the ‘Signings at Stanfords’ stand.
Sir Don McCullin – With a career spanning sixty years including 18 years with The Sunday Times, Sir Don McCullin is one of the finest photojournalists of his time. See Sir Don discussing his career on stage with Julia Wheeler. Afterwards Sir Don will be signing copies of his photography book ‘The Landscape’.
