In the past 40 years since China’s opening and reform, Western tourists to China were largely attracted to predominant destinations like the Great Wall, Gu Lin, the Terracotta Warriors and the Yangtze River. 40 years later, it is time for the foreign travelers to go deeper and explore further. As a matter of fact, even Xi’an where the Terracotta army is located, is still an underdog. Overshadowed by the First Emperor’s huge underground battle formation, Xi’an is less known as the starting point of the ancient Silk Road. The new Silk Road initiative by the Chinese government rekindled interests in North-Western China and beyond. What does this region have to offer?
