As the “Nature Island” of the Caribbean, Dominica really lives up to its name. Its craggy interior of impressive waterfalls, lush rainforest and hidden hot springs is flanked by rocky shores, white-sand beaches and a warm Caribbean sea that is home to some of the region’s best diving and whale watching. This talk will mainly explore the walking trails of post-hurricane Dominica; the ongoing project of an island that keeps rebuilding itself. The cross-island Waitukubuli Trail is unique to the Caribbean, while the island’s six national parks and forest reserves are prime territory for excellent hiking for all abilities as well as Dominica’s two endemic parrot species; the Sisserou and the Jaco. Coupled with Caribbean food and a friendly and welcoming population, it's an off-the-beaten-path island holiday that offers something different from the mainstream fly and flop.
