In the Wake of Scott & Shackleton

Heritage Expeditions New Zealand Ltd Stand: Small Cruise Ships Pavilion 2025

Join our expedition from New Zealand into the heart of Antarctica, the Ross Sea, with our partner and New Zealand's pioneering expedition cruise company Heritage Expeditions. Murihiku ki Te Tonga is the first indigenous-led Antarctic research programme launched by the southern rūnanga of Ngāi Tahu, the main Māori tribe of South Island New Zealand. On our inaugural expedition in February 2023, we travelled to the Subantarctic Islands, Victoria Land, McMurdo Sound and the Ross Ice shelf to survey keystone marine species such as whales and seals, and test remote sensing methodology. Our research supports marine conservation and the Ross Sea region Marine Protected Area, the largest MPA in the world. Central to our work is the use of the latest remote technology for low-impact, 'contactless' science, and we had two experienced drone pilots on our team - veteran Antarctican Anthony 'Antz' Powell of Antzworks and Colin Aitchison of Skyworks UAS showcases the beauty of the southern Ross Sea, its wild inhabitants and some of the highlights of our first expedition. www.heritage-expeditions.com/antarctica-ross-sea-cruises/ Shot by: Anthony Powell (Antzworks), Colin Aitchison (Skyworks UAS), Greenstone TV, Yves Simard and James Muir.
