Travel Carpathia is the ecotourism tour operator of Foundation Conservation Carpathia, a Romanian conservation organisation working to protect and restore the wild landscapes of the Southern Carpathians. Travel Carpathia was created to give Romanian and international visitors the opportunity to experience the beauty and wildness of the Făgăraș Mountains while supporting a more sustainable future for the region.
We offer authentic experiences centred around nature, wildlife, local people and the cultural heritage of the villages where we operate. Our experiences include guided mountain tours, responsible wildlife watching, unique equestrian experiences, local food and sustainable accommodation in some of the Carpathians’ most remote locations.
Our approach to tourism is closely connected to the Foundation’s conservation work. Together, we aim to support a new, non-destructive local economy that benefits both biodiversity and the communities living around the mountains. We believe tourism can play an important role in protecting natural and cultural heritage when it is developed responsibly.
From observing bears, bison and other wildlife in their natural environment to exploring the mountains on horseback or staying in remote wilderness locations, Travel Carpathia offers visitors the chance to discover a less-explored side of Romania. We place great importance on responsible wildlife encounters, minimising disturbance and respecting the space and natural behaviour of wild animals.
