Alan is owner and director of his own company, Yak Travel – www.yaktravel.co.uk. – (estb. 2012) which specialises in both gentle holidays and not so gentle expeditions to Bhutan, Pakistan, North East India, Nepal and Morocco. All treks and tours which he offers are based upon his own expedition experiences and his abiding principle is that he must have personally experienced everything before it appears on his website. He is a regular speaker at travel shows and travel clubs, both at home and abroad, and is a respected travel writer, too.

Already a major contributor to the first edition of Pakistan (Insight Guides, 1990), he was invited to update, develop and expand the whole book ready for publication of the fifth edition in April 2025.

He is also author of Moroccan Atlas the Trekking Guide (Trailblazer Publications, 2010 & 2014) and has contributed to numerous other travel books and magazines besides, including The Silk Road (Insight Guides) and The Rough Guide to The Best 100 Places on Earth.
