The statistics are devastating. Plastic has increased twenty-fold over the past 50 years, and will double again in the next 20 years. Already present in the stomachs of nearly all the world’s marine birds, by 2050 plastics in the ocean will outweigh fish, covering large swaths of the Pacific in floating garbage slicks.

 

We can change this. Plastic pollution is not nature’s choice but ours.

The talk will cover some hidden gems of Kerala that remain unexplored by the visitor.

While much is known about Kerala there is much that remains unknown, places explored by Harji during his 16 years there. Among the regions Harji will talk about are Mujris or Kondangalur, which has the oldest mosque, church and synagogue in the country; Thattekad, a tucked away bird sanctuary; Parambikulam,perhaps the richest wildlife park in the state; Bekal, a beach that is emerging and Thrissur with its rich tradition of promoting Kalaripeyattu, Kathakali, Mohinattam and Panch vadyam.

Of course Harji will also cover the popular areas of Cochin, Munnar, Periyar, Kovalam and the unique backwaters and the eco tourism that they sustain.

Sensational Costa Rica with Wanderlust

Costa Rica is bursting with natural wonders, an abundance of adventure and is the ecotourism capital of the world. Author and photojournalist Alex Robinson provides an insight into Costa Rica’s highlights and insider secrets. Alex Metcalfe won a photo assignment there in the last Wanderlust Photo of the Year Awards, and reports back with beautiful images of his trip, saying “Costa Rica has it all!”. Wanderlust editor-in-chief Lyn Hughes talks about why “off-season” is actually the best time for white water rafting and for seeing turtles nest on beaches.

Wanderlust Travel Photo of the Year Awards

Many thousands of entries were received in this, the UK’s biggest travel photography competition, giving the judges difficult decisions to make! The final 40 photographs are exhibited at the show, and representatives of the judging panel will talk through the final selection, and what makes them so special, before announcing the category winners, each of whom win photo assignments to magical Hong Kong and Macao.
